Bereits im Februar 2015 installierte eine Gruppe Freiwilliger des shack e.V. im Flüchtlingsheim Arthurstraße in Stuttgart Rohr einen Internetanschluss sowie ein Internetcafe aus vier Surfterminals. Dadurch ist der Kontakt zu zurückgebliebenen Familienmitgliedern und Freunden einfach möglich. Auch fördert dies die Integration in unsere Gesellschaft welche ohne Zugang zum Netz, Email und Social Media nurnoch schwer vorstellbar ist. Ermöglicht wurde dies durch Spenden.

Vorarbeiten und Planung begannen bereits im Sommer 2014. Vier baugleiche Rechner wurden ausgewählt und mit einem Satz essentieller Software bestückt. Die Privatssphäre und Sicherheit der Benutzer war ein Kernpunkt der Planung. Alle Arbeitsplätze sind so konfiguriert, dass sämtliche Änderungen am System (Neuinstallationen, eingegebene Passworte, Verlauf des Browsers, …) beim Neustart automatisch verworfen werden.

Dank Freifunk Stuttgart e.V. können die Bewohner des Flüchtlingsheims Arthurstraße seit Kurzem diesen Internetanschluss auch über WLAN benutzen.

Auf Grund rechtlicher Änderungen können wir unseren liebgewonnenen Lasercutter nicht mehr länger betreiben. Daher steht die Anschaffung eines Ersatzgeräts an.

Einen Teil der Finanzierung erhoffen wir uns von der Aktion “Du und dein Verein” der ING-DIBA, welche jedes Jahr 1000 € für 1000 Vereine spendet.
Die Aktion läuft noch bis Ende Juni. Bis dahin müssen wir unter den Top-200 unserer Gruppe (201-500 Mitglieder) bleiben um zu gewinnen.

Am Samstag den 6. Juni 2015 ab 19 Uhr freut sich shackspace das erste Stuttgarter Virtual Reality (VR) Meetup zu hosten.

Der Event richtet sich an VR-Enthusiasten, Entwickler und alle Interessierten.
Es werden aktuelle Entwicklungen diskutiert und verschiedene Systeme wie ein VR Pinball-Controller und aktuelle Devkits können ausprobiert werden.

Am Donnerstag den 28. Mai 2015 ab 19 Uhr freut sich shackspace euch den Stuttgart Augmented Reality Meetup zu präsentieren.

Es geht um Augmented und Virtual Reality. Aktuelle Technologien wie Magic Leap, Microsoft Hololens, Valve und Oculus Rift werden besprechen.
Vor Ort können unterschiedliche Systeme getestet werden.

Die Organisatoren Alexej und Shora werden einen Vortrag halten (Titel noch unbekannt).

• Sadly, all Mapping projects for the spaceAPI seemed dead at this point, so @momorientes and @makefoo teamed up and built http://map.krebsco.de to get started. In the process we found some hackerspaces that had switched lat and lon on their API implementations and notified them, in the near future there should be less hackerspaces in the Somalia region ;)

  Friday:

• ciko, @lotho and @momorientes began to make plans to fix minor bugs in the map and add the Caspian and the Black Sea

• @phrewfuf and @momorientes started by adding the Caspian and the Black Sea to the exisiting wooden map initially built by @n3rdybirdy.

• @lotho and @momorientes gave the map a finishing paint.
  Saturday:

  3pm:

• Jo merged a piece of wood to complete the Caspian Sea

• Jo and @codingrixx began to plan the path our bus would have to take around Eurasia

• @phrewfuf started to solder the WS2812 LEDs and was later replaced by @pcopfer and @codingrixx.

  10pm:

• @codingrixx and @pcopfer did an awesome job and got half way through Europe

• Meanwhile @flachdachjogger had started to rip out the existing background illumination and began to replace it with a high density LED stripe

  Sunday:
  
  
  1am:

• @codingrixx single-handedly finished the soldering on Germany (so many hackerspaces!)

• ttb and @codingrixx continued till 8am to finish Eurasia by soldering LEDs for the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Spain

  11am:

• @gryhsl started to assemble a sorted list of all APIs on the maps part.

• @momorientes and @flachdachjogger added 3 more hackerspaces to the map.
• @flachdachjogger, @momorientes and ttb added wood and hot glue to improve the overall sturdiness of the map.
• @flachdachjogger added a power supply and improved the map‘s supply voltage.

• @phrewfuf added an arduino for doing a simple fade as long as no ‘brain’ is added.
  8pm:

• @momorientes and @flachdachjogger put some finishing touches on the map and put it on the wall.

  Monday:

• @makefoo quickly hacked together a control script for the ws2811 on the esp8266 on the nodemcu firmware. The firmware opens a coap server and exposes the control of the LEDs from an external instance. A VM polls the hackerspace APIs and sets the LEDs to red/green according to their open status. Together with Samu the ESP8266 got deployed in place of the arduino used for testing.
  

  
  
  
  
  After this long weekend the team had completed continental Eurasia (lacking some small islands such as the UK) and added about 80 LEDs (>450 solder joints).
  
  
  Sadly, smaller hackerspaces didn’t fit on the wooden map in crowded places (the Netherlands on the map is as big as four LEDs), but their status is always correctly displayed on http://map.krebsco.de.
  
  
  If your hackerspace isn’t on the map, make sure to implement the current version of the hackerspace API, especially when your hackerspace is on the African continent or the Middle East
  
  
  Work will continue during the next weekends and islands and other continents will be added. The map will also receive a new paint coat and the background illumination will be finalized (we didn’t have enough LED Stripes at hand).

Am Samstag, den 28.03., ab 15:00 Uhr stellt shackspace Mitglied Joachim in einem Workshop die deklarative Linux-Distribution NixOS vor.

 

Ziel des Workshops ist es:

• NixOS in einer VM zu installieren
• NixOS Services zu verstehen und einzurichten
• Einen eigenen NixOS Service zu entwerfen
  Zur Teilnahme wird entweder eine funktionsfähige VirtualBox-Installation oder ein Laptop mit leerer Festplatte benötigt.

NixOS Neulinge können sich mit Joachims Vorträgen auf der GPN und der Easterhegg einen kleinen Vorgeschmack holen.

Joachim ist langjähriger NixOS Entwickler und auch beruflich viel mit Linux unterwegs.

shackspace is proud to support and host AerospaceResearch.net - a student team at the University of Stuttgart - in bringing back the NASA Space Applications Challenge (Space Apps) to Stuttgart.
This year the goal is have a bigger, better event as well as a small head-start to give us a better chance at winning one of the awards ;). And we are inviting you to become a part of it!

On Saturday the 28th of February at 18:00 o’clock you can join the Kickoff event, start a team early and get your ideas in (the actual Space Apps event will be held in April).
Also, if everything works out well, participants can get a paper on their project published at the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) 2015.

The AerospaceResearch.net team is working on the Distributed Ground Station Network for tracking small satellites and it’s proof-of-concept project BigWhoop, a global sensor grid for radio spectrum monitoring with software defined radio. You can either join the team or work on any of the other projects.

We already hosted Space Apps in Stuttgart in 2012 and it was a great event for working on space projects within an interdisciplinary team as well as for networking.
So feel invited to be part of this great space event and the global space community!

shackspace freut sich am 16. Februar 2014 um 20 Uhr den Vortrag Routing 101 - Eine Einführung zu präsentieren.

Wer sich jetzt fragt “Routing? Damit habe ich doch nichts zu tun.” liegt falsch. Ohne Routing gäbe es z.B. kein Internet.
